There are many options for energy bars these days, with new ones cropping up more and more frequently. It can be very overwhelming standing in front of the shelves at the grocery store lined with bars all trying to demand your attention. I sometimes find myself mesmerized by them all, having to snap out of it.
Over the years I have tried many. At race expos and in swag bags, there are always companies giving away product. I used to stick with only PowerBars and Cliff Bars when I was swimming, but with my new approach to food and diet I have discovered some amazing bars. Here are my top 5 best energy bars, all vegan, all gluten-free, all read food, and all delicious.
1. Picky Bars
Not surprised Picky Bars are at the top of my list? Me either. These bars and this company are the best. Founded by three bad ass pro athletes, they sought out to create a bar that satisfied nutritional and training needs of a picky eater (aka Jesse Thomas).
They now have 7 flavors, their newest being Ah, Fudge Nuts (which tastes like a brownie, but it’s good for you). Each bar can be consumed before, during, and/or after workouts. All 200 calories and a perfect 4:1 ratio of carbohydrates and protein. They are easily digestible and made with real food. So good.

Probably the most well-known energy bar on the list, LÄRABARs are, “Pure, simple, just as nature intended.”
I can’t believe I just discovered how good these bars are. They are made from whole food and each flavor contains no more than nine ingredients. Their Cherry Pie flavor contains just three; dates, almonds, and cherries. Watch out though, you may find yourself gobbling up more than one!
All around 190-220 calories. They are naturally sweetened by dates and/or fruit! Yum!
3. Health Warrior
This superfood bar sure packs a punch. The main base of all Health Warrior bars? Chia seeds. Which is one of the most nutrient-dense foods, loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, protein, antioxidants, and dietary fiber.
Their original energy bars come in 8 flavors, sure to satisfy anyone’s taste buds, while their new product, Chia Protein Bar, comes in 4 flavors, Honey Almond, Lemon Goldenberry, Peanut Butter Cacao, and Dark Chocolate Coconut Sea Salt. I personally love the Peanut Butter Cocao. It is filling, delicious, and contains 10g of plant protein!
4. Two Moms In The Raw
Up and comers right here. Two Moms In The Raw energy bars are organic, gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO, and raw. Shari, the founder, started making raw treats and energy bars for herself after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Their bars are super tasty and are the perfect combination of nuts, fruit, and spices. Have half before a workout for a boost and half after for recovery, or have one during a long day in the office!
Two Moms In The Raw also provide a Nut Butter Truffle that combines handmade almond butter, cacao, and agave that is to die for. Great for those who love chocolate, but want to stay healthy. And who doesn’t want that?
5. BoBo’s Oat Bars
BoBo’s Oat Bars are the newest to me energy bar. They are moist and crazy delicious.
Hailing from Boulder, Colorado this bar is perfect for long training rides. You can take a bite or two every so often and then stuff it back into your jersey. Or enjoy one for breakfast or an afternoon snack. They are super filling and just under 400 calories for all 6 of their gluten-free flavors!
