Sister’s Graduation at The University of Illinois

This weekend my little sister graduated from The University of Illinois. She is last one so it was a monumental weekend for my parents and our family. No more kids in college and no more paying for college!

My parents, my older brother Nick, and I all rode down to Champaign Saturday morning. We met up with my sister, Sam, and her boyfriend, Kurtis, for lunch. They all decided on going to Papa Dells, a really good pizza place, but unfortunately they don’t have any vegan friendly options, unless I wanted to eat lettuce, which wasn’t going to fly because I was starving!

It was a nice day so I didn’t mind walking into town and finding a place to grab some food. I ended up at an Indian restaurant where I had an amazing dish of grilled eggplant with vegetables and spices, paired with basmati rice. It was just what I needed for my midday fuel. It was bursting with flavor with the perfect amount of spice. I’ve honestly never had a bad Indian meal and I definitely want to recreate this dish at home.

After filling up, I walked around campus enjoying the sun before meeting back up with the gang. The forecast wasn’t looking great for the rest of the weekend so Sam wanted to take some pictures around campus before the sun went away.

The rest of the day was spent packing, we had a quick dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and capped off the night with card games back at the apartment. Lots of laughs!

Sam’s graduation ceremony was early Sunday morning. It was exclusively for the College of Business grads, but still a lot of students.

I was filled with pride seeing her in her cap and gown, walking across the stage, and receiving her diploma #proudsistersams graduation

We took a few more pictures and then headed back to her apartment to pack up the rest of her belongings before hitting the road!

It was so nice being all together. As we get older there will be fewer and fewer moments like these, so I am soaking it all in! It was a busy, busy weekend, but completely worth it. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much sleep this weekend so I am looking forward to catching up on my sleep this week!

How was your weekend? It was super warm in the midwest, did any of you take advantage of the nice weather!?

  1. We had a few storms here in central Iowa this weekend, but we were still able to get out and ride for 67 miles on Saturday and get a long run in on Sunday. Congratulations to your sister :)
