Five Friday Faves: January 16, 2015

Who’s ready for the weekend!? I am! I don’t have any big plans, but I really want to get in the kitchen and create some yummy meals! I’m thinking of making the red lentil soup I posted a few weeks back. It’s just too good!

Another plus to this weekend is the rising temperature! Which is one of my Friday Faves…

1. Warmer Temps

You guys…it’s been hovering in the high 20s-low 30s the past couple of days and tomorrow it might reach 40!? I am loving the more mild temps. I can walk outside and be comfortable and not feel like someone knocked the wind out of me.

2. All About Them Plants

After tossing around the idea of going vegan this past month, I fully committed to a plant based diet this past weekend. Pretty exciting and big news!

Now, I would have never thought I would eliminate meat and dairy. I have been a burger girl all my life, but after research and in general how much better my body feels after eating raw plant foods, it was an easy decision.

Over the past couple of years, my way of eating has slowly evolved to include more raw food, and less meat and processed food. You start to crave the food that makes you feel good, especially veggies. I know, its weird, but completely true!

So, get ready for more recipes powered by plants!

3. Spiralizer

I received a spiralizer as a Christmas gift and on Wednesday I spiralized my first zucchini! Amazingness. I didn’t grab a picture, but I heated up the spiralized zucchini in a pan with olive oil and chopped garlic. I had it with the homemade pasta sauce I made in addition to leftover spaghetti squash, roasted broccoli, cauliflower and half an avocado.

This is an awesome tool for the kitchen and even better for someone who now only eats plants! I am excited to make more “pasta” dishes and I really want to make sweet potato pancakes with it!

4. Headstands

I have been adding a ton of headstands into my yoga practice lately since I have been trying to stay off my feet. It has been a ton of fun and I can really see the improvements!

I have been working toward a forearm stand and I have been able to kick up, but I am having difficulty holding it. My arms/hands always seem to want to come together. I will get there though…one of these days.

I might post some pictures of poses/sequences at some point.

5. Ginger

Holy ginger.

I never really liked the taste of raw ginger, but I have been making an effort of incorporating more into my diet because it has tons of health benefits. So, I put a chunk…or two in my morning smoothie. Well, I put wayyyyy too much. I was so energized though! It was crazy how good it made me feel. Has this happened to anyone else?

That’s it! Have a great weekend!

    1. I have gone all in. But through the past year my eating habits have slowly changed to a plant centered approach. I had not been eating that much meat, it wasn’t something I really wanted, plus I hate cooking it. So, majority of my meals were already vegan. Eliminating dairy has been easy as well…the big thing is getting used to checking what ingredients are in everything, but I prepare the majority of my food so it hasn’t been that hard.
