Five Friday Faves: January 2, 2015

Happy Friday! Yesterday was a Holiday, today is Friday, and tomorrow is the weekend! What a great week and I have a lot to be grateful for. Here are five things that were my fave and made me smile.

1. New Year’s Eve Yoga

My big plan for New Year’s Eve was to take a yoga class! It was Total Body Yoga’s annual New Year’s Eve Celebration. Two amazing teachers, fifty plus yogis, and one DJ, DJ Taz Rashid. He was incredible, had me like whoa.

It was the perfect way to say goodbye to 2014. Relaxing and grounding. So much so that I ended up falling asleep at 9 (not on purpose!), and woke up seconds before the clock struck midnight. #partyanimal

2. Wild

Early last year I read Wild by Cheryl Strayed. It was an inspiring story that really makes you want to start hiking, at least that was the effect it had on me.

Its motion picture version was recently released, starring Reese Witherspoon. My sister and I went to see it Monday and it did not disappoint. Of course, the movie version cannot portray every agonizing moment Cheryl endures…from problems with her pack, boots, and running out of water. That is why the book is always better, but they did a really good job and hit all the big points.

Reese did a great job too, but no matter how bad she was supposed to look, she is just too pretty. And I did not expect to see Reese that up close and personal.

3. Nikki’s Birthday!

Its my best friend’s 25th birthday today! I am so so excited for tonight. After work we will be going for sushi and then to a comedy club!

4. Running on Om Podcast

After finishing up Serial’s season one podcast I was looking for something new to listen to for my commute to and from work. I have been following Julia’s blog for a while now, but never listened to her podcast…until this week. And I love it! She interviews runners, teachers, yogis, really any wellness enthusiast. It is both inspiring and really intriguing to listen to each individual’s story. They are all so passionate and each have a different approach to their training, how they got into their sport, and how they find balance.

5. Michigan State Bowl Win!

This is an ultimate fave this Friday. Some how, by some miracle Michigan State came back from a 20 point deficit in the second half to beat number 5 ranked Baylor in the Cotton Bowl yesterday! AHHHH

To be honest I gave up on them and started watching Gilmore Girls. I know, I know, but they were making me mad. Obviously, I needed to have more faith in Dantonio. This is a great win for our school and football program. #spartanpride

And this photo makes me smile too.

What’s making you smile this week? How was your New Year’s Eve/Day?

  1. I am reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed right now and LOVE it…I can’t wait to go see the movie ;) I haven’t heard of the podcast, but am definitely going to look into it, since Serial was a #fave of mine. I am so sad it is over. :(

    1. The podcast is nothing like Serial, but if you are a fitness/endurance enthusiast you will like it, and I know you are. :) And I am so glad you are loving Wild, it was a personal fave of mine too.
