Five Friday Faves: December 26, 2014

The day after Christmas is always a little blue. But, it is Friday I’m going to brighten the day by starting a new Friday theme! I am going to list, discuss (er ramble) about five things that I have been loving recently. Here are my five Friday faves this week…

1. Christmas!

Of course this had to make the list, you knew that.

The day started off with hot lemon water and sitting by the fire.

Breakfast was perfect after my run.

Do you see the cute ornaments I got this year? They are from Disney World when my Mom and sister visited. So cute! One is an angel and the other is Mickey’s ears!

The rest of the day we opened gifts under the tree and hung out around the house. I took a nap…felt amazing. I was exhausted from lack of sleep/running.

We had a nice dinner, watched the Bulls beat the Lakers, and played games until it was time to get to bed. Couldn’t have asked for anything better.

2. Serial

I am really late to this party, but I have been listening to this captivating podcast for the last week driving to and from work. If you don’t know what it is, download it.

3. Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm

I am not much of a lipstick girl, but I love chapstick. Burts Bees came out with a chapstick that is natural and gives off a shade of color. I purchased the rose pigment and having been loving it. Keeps my lips moist while giving off a nice shade of red.

4. Men of Triathlon Calendar

This was a Christmas gift, although I did buy one as a gift for someone else too. It is hilarious and I can’t wait to hang it up at the office…not sure if it will be appropriate though!

Jesse Thomas and Matt Lieto put together their annual Men of Triathlon Calendar to raise money for the Movember Foundation, a men’s health charity. It features male pro triathletes, all with mustaches and in ridiculous poses. Worth every penny.

5. Recent Workouts

I have really been loving my laid back approach to workouts lately. Here’s how this week played out…

Monday – 30 minutes hill interval workout on the Arc and an arm workout that had me shaking by the end and sore the next day.

Tuesday – Hard Core class early in the morning, followed by an easy 20 minute swim.

Wednesday – Christmas Eve morning yoga class at The Yoga Effect. The class was a donation based class, all proceeds went to a boy’s orphanage in the Dominican Republic. My neighbor owns the studio and they flew out today to give them the money that was raised!

The class itself was just what I needed. It was very grounding. My best friend was beside me, which was even better.

Thursday – A quiet 2 mile run after stockings and before breakfast on Christmas Day. I snuck away for a run with Skyler, my brother and wife’s dog. This was the first run since I ran my Turkey Trot! I am definitely out of running shape and unfortunately my foot and the back of my knee are still giving me pain. It only hurts after I am done running though…this has been really frustrating, but either way it was really nice getting a bit of exercise before the day really started.

Today – 2.5 mile walk during lunch to shake out the legs…very sore after only 2 miles of running yesterday.

That’s it! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!! I have a Birthday party to go to tomorrow night in Chicago for a good friend, so I am looking forward to that!

What are your plans? More holiday celebrations?

  1. It sounds like you had a perfect Christmas day! I’m sorry to hear your foot and the back of your knee are causing pain. Have you been to physical therapy or active release therapy (ART)? ART really helped me overcome a couple of injuries in 2014. At this point, my only plan is to get rid of all of the germs in our house and get healthy before 2015 starts back up. This is not how I had planned to spend the holidays, but I am grateful I had the time to rest and get better. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2015 ;)

    1. I have not…i have been stubborn. But i need to schedule an appointment because it is not healing quickly. I hope you are feeling a little better though! And that sounds like a good plan, with about a weeks more of rest you will be ready to enter the new year healthy!

      1. I would highly recommend ART if there is someone who does that where you live. It was a miracle worker for me and got me back on track so I could run again.
