It’s hard to believe that this was our last weekend before Christmas! Weren’t we just eating turkey and pumpkin pie? I swear as I get older, time just seems to fly by faster.
To make the most of it, my weekend was filled with lots of Holiday cheer. :)
Early Saturday morning, my Mom, Dad, sister, and I drove down to Chicago to see The Nutcracker, an annual tradition.
After we parked, we walked over to Macy’s (formally known as Fields) to have breakfast under the tree at The Walnut Room. To our surprise there was no wait and we were seated right away (we arrived around 8:30). The wait can be up to 3 hours later in the day! So glad we bypassed that this year by going early.
Breakfast was a buffet. They had all the regular stuff, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, french toast, cheesy hash browns, fruit, yogurt, granola, and muffins. I went with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and lots of fruit with a side of coffee. We were quite disappointed in the quality of the food for what you have to pay. I really liked the sausage link and fruit, not so much the bacon and eggs though.
After breakfast we had tons of time to kill before our show, which was at 2PM. It was time to shop! I picked up a nice over-sized gray sweater by Calvin Klein and two shirts from Free People (love!). All great deals too!
Once exhausted from shopping, we headed over to the Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza, only a block or two away. It is a German market, inspired by the one in Nuremburg, Germany. There are tons of food and beverage vendors selling all the traditional German eats and drinks. Brats, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, beer, mulled wine, stuffed pretzels, chocolates, and so much more. There is a candy shop, bakery, vendors selling little trinkets like ornaments and the like. And it was packed! Like usual. We went to grab the yearly mug, but they were all out! A bummer, but it was still a good time.
We stopped by the car to drop off our bags before walking down the Auditorium Theater to see The Joffrey Ballet perform The Nutcracker. We have been seeing The Nutcracker every year for as long as I can remember. Lately, we have been going to The Joffrey Ballet and every year they just amaze me. The Sugar Plum Fairy was outstanding this year! She gave me chills. They have a live orchestra as well, which makes it even better. I love the music! Ah! So good!
These are the days that are to be cherished, the ones spent with family.
Sunday I made Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate, Chia Seed Cookies. Yum, yum! I also watched Frozen for the first time! Yes, I know I am way behind. It was so adorable, I can see why every little girl is in love with this movie. Olaf was hilarious too, I think he really made the movie.
How was your weekend?
Did you do any Christmasy type things?
