Half Ironman Racine Training: 6/2-6/8

Last week turned into a recovery week with a short taper into the race on Sunday. Mileage and training time were decreased, but that is OK. I listened to how my body was feeling and took away a few workouts, so I would be fresh come Sunday. Here’s how my week went…

Monday 6/2:

Rest day

Tuesday 6/3:

Before work I hit the pool for 2,500 yards, 42 min. After work I completed a 1 hour 10 min session on the trainer for a total of 17 miles.

Wednesday 6/4:

I took the morning off and went to Power Yoga during lunch for an hour. It was National Running Day, which was perfect as I had an hour run scheduled. I ran for a total of 6.7 miles and felt pretty good once I got going. I also got a sports massage! He really worked my legs and especially my right hip, which has been bothering me if I sit too long. Massage was great and a perfect way to end National Running Day.

Thursday 6/5:

I was feeling really sore. I think it was the combination of a really intense yoga class and the deep tissue massage. I needed to rest so I did.

Friday 6/6:

Feeling much better, I went in for a swim before work. 3,600 yards in an hour. Main set was 12 x 200, alternating between 2 @ 80%, 2 @ 90%. My stroke felt effortless, feeling really good. At the end of my swim a man came up to me and thanked me! He let me know he had a great swim and that he had not pushed himself that hard in a long time. For the majority of my 200s he was pacing off me and doing an awesome job. Made my day knowing I helped a fellow swimmer reach their potential. He also gave me a pretty inspirational speech!

I then had this delicious peanut butter, banana, ezekiel wrap!

Saturday 6/7:

I went for a quick and easy brick to shake out my legs and make sure everything was in order before the race. 40 min riding outside, 10.7 miles and then a 20 min run, 2.25 miles. The neighbor girls were selling lemonade so I grabbed a cup in between the bike and run. Perfect hydration, so refreshing on a hot day.

Run | Time 1 hr 44:38 min | Mileage 12.05

Cycle | Time 2 hrs 30:56 min | Mileage 41

Swim | Time 1 hr 51:46 min | Mileage 3.97

Total Time: 7 hrs 7 min     Total Mileage: 57.02

We are 5 and a half weeks away until IRONMAN 70.3 Racine! So, the next couple of weeks are going to be big. I need to have quality sessions and make sure I complete my long bike and long runs on the weekends. Recovery is key as well…stretching and rolling!
