Midweek Training Update – Post IL Half Marathon

Focus is strictly back to triathlons – mainly IM Racine 70.3! I still need to up my run game so more effort there as always, but I will also be focusing on the bike. Long Saturday rides are in my future! Here is how my training has been this week coming off my first half marathon:

Monday:

Woke up feeling great, no soreness in knees or legs. Completed 1 hour and 5 min on the trainer – 10 min warm up, 45 min moderate with 8 x 1 min all out sprints, 10 min cool down.

Tuesday:

Swam 4,400 yards, 1 hour 20 min, 2.5 miles. DRILLS, DRILLS, DRILLS. I backed this workout with 40 min of strength, working the arms, shoulders, and chest. Got some good stretching and rolling in too. Left the gym with shaky arms (I love that feeling!).

Wednesday:

Power yoga class at lunch for 1 hour. I was definitely feeling sore from all the arm work the previous day and yoga just added on to that. It was chatarunga after chatarunga. Great overall workout, I love adding yoga into my training as it strengthens my core as well as the rest of my body – works everything.

Afternoon brick pick-me-up. 40 min moderate + 10 min hard on the trainer (12.66 miles). Quickly threw on warmer gear and shoes then headed out for a 4.53 mile run with 6 x 30 second sprints about every .7 miles. Total time just under 40 min, 8:49 pace. I managed to do my laundry and go grocery shopping after all this. I call that a successful day!
